Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant
At Rooppur in Ishwardi, Pabna, at a distance of 182 km from Dhaka, a huge yajna of Rooppur nuclear power plant is going on. The VVER-1200 REACTOR being used at Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant is the third generation reactor in history. The reactor invented by Russia is the most modern reactor in the world today.
This highly reliable reactor was designed after the collapse of the Fukushima nuclear power plant in Japan. Russia's state-owned nuclear company Rosatom has done state-of-the-art design and development.
Rosatom's VVER nuclear reactor is being used by more than 48 countries today, notably Germany, Hungary, Slovakia, Finland, Bulgaria or Ukraine. On the other hand, countries like China, India, Iran, Turkey are in this list.
This design of the reactor has a point-to-point safety fence. There are 12 hydro accommodations covering the largest part of the 5 level security system.
If for any reason any kind of accident happens or for any reason any untoward incident is born inside the reactor. However, these 12 hydroacupunctions will operate the furnace safely for at least 72 hours without any outside cooperation or supervision.
Even then, if for some reason the heat inside the nuclear reactor rises or the heat goes out of control, it will freeze through the specialized tanks built under it through the automatic system. It will freeze in the tank for a short period of time and will be able to move it later.
Now again the question is how will the nuclear fuel freeze where it is blasted? The answer is that the furnace is designed in such a way that the fillets melt. Scientists at Rosatom haven't finished the safety point right here.
Rosatom scientists have created specialized as the latest security. The reactor building is designed in such a way that if it explodes for any reason, its radiation will not spread more than 300 meters.

Because this was the last important thing about the safety fence in the 5th formula of the reactor building. But do you know how many meters of space has been left vacant for the sake of safety of Rooppur nuclear power plant? The answer is 800 meters so it can be said for sure that if for some reason the blast is to spread radiation up to 300 meters, Bangladesh has left another 500 meters space in the interest of security.
All in all, the 600-meter area outside the nuclear reactor will always be empty. Traditionally, security is not given much importance in the case of Bangladesh but in this case both the Prime Minister of Bangladesh and the Minister of Science have said that compromise will not compromise in Bangladesh in terms of time and money required to ensure the safety of nuclear power plants. This is not me saying that the officials of Internal Automatic Ernagi have come here many times for inspection.
Talking so much about safety and the reactor, it can also come to mind how expensive nuclear is. One hundred percent of the cost of a nuclear power plant is covered by the completion of the nuclear power plant. For a developing country like ours, the skyrocketing cost is like lightning.
Until the Rooppur nuclear power plant is fully built, the cost to Bangladesh is 13.34 billion US dollars, which is more than 11 lakh 13 thousand crore rupees. This huge amount of money is definitely telling you that this is the biggest project in Bangladesh in terms of money. But did you know that Rooppur nuclear power plant is the biggest cost.
The amount that will be required to operate the power plant next time is very small compared to the production. One gram of uranium 235, for example, produces about 24,000 kilowatts of electricity. In order to generate this amount of electricity, a coal-fired power plant has to burn more than 3 tons of coal in total.
At present, the price of a ton of coal is more than ১৫ 150 to ২০০ 200. Where the price of uranium in a village is only 30 to 30 dollars. This means you have to spend at least 450 to 600 to produce the coal-fired power plant that you are getting at the cost of 1 gram or 30. It is easy to understand that nuclear power is at least 12 to 15 times more economical in terms of production and cost.
The example can be given exactly like a golden egg-laying duck. If you have a duck, you can take it to the golden egg. From then on, he will go with golden eggs all the time, just need to feed him regularly. Now you can ask again, Russia is lending more than 12 billion for nuclear power plants. So will we get electricity at a lower price?
The answer is that for the first 20 years Russia will repay their loan in Bangladesh. When repaying a loan, you may not get the electricity that you are supposed to get at the lowest price in Bangladesh.
However, the current market price of electricity will be slightly lower than that. At the end of 20 years, when the loan is repaid, next time in 60 to 70 years, Bangladesh will get electricity at the lowest price in its history.
In this case, your question may be how long will the power plant really last? According to Rosatom, the design and development of their nuclear reactor has been done in such a way that it can serve up to 60 years without any hindrance and can be well supervised, but it is possible to take power from it for at least 100 years.
If you think nuclear power plant is the only nuclear power plant for Bangladesh. But you are mistaken that Rooppur nuclear power plant is a total empire structure for us. Because for the operation of nuclear power plant or for its maintenance we need here in the mechanical industry, chemical industry, technology industry and the biggest part of what is needed is nuclear science and technology man power. In this case, I am at zero.
Where at least 1800 skilled people are required to operate a nuclear power plant. The good news is that Bangladesh has undertaken a project to build a skilled workforce of at least 3,000 people to operate nuclear power plants. In the meantime, a team of 650 people has been sent to Russia and those who have undergone both academic and practical training in Russia.
When the training of this team of 650 people is over, they will leave for the country and another team of 650 people will leave for Russia. The first 650 people have been trained. After coming to Russia, they will train another 750 people in the country.
And in this way manpower is being created in the country to operate the power plant in a short time. We are selecting these students for training from BUET, Dhaka University, MIT. And the Bangladesh Army is overseeing the entire project and the work of creating manpower for the management of the project.
The reality is that it is almost impossible to manage such a large project with only 3,000 skilled manpower. So it is a continuous process to create manpower in this way. By building the SOO nuclear power plant, different countries of the world have given birth to many kinds of confusion. Some have been banned, while others have taken up arms projects.
Is there any sanctions waiting for Soo Bangladesh or does Bangladesh have any plans to make weapons? A few days ago, the Hon'ble Prime Minister directly made it very clear that Bangladesh will not build nuclear weapons, Bangladesh's target is only electricity. Is there a possibility of sanctions like Iran or North Korea due to nuclear power project? The answer is no. The reason is that Bangladesh has signed the non-proliferation treaty of IAER.
The May deal is huge. In short, if IAER suspects you or for some reason it seems that Bangladesh is on the path of developing nuclear weapons. But they will come for inspection and not allowing them to do the inspection or not cooperating with them for any reason means that big sanctions are waiting for you.
That is why sanctions were imposed on Iran and North Korea. A few days ago, a 19-member IAEA team visited Bangladesh and inspected the Rooppur nuclear power plant and expressed its satisfaction. Bangladesh still has no plans to impose sanctions on Soo nuclear power plants.
What is the benefit of the people of the region because of the Rooppur nuclear power plant? In the true sense, Rooppur has become a fairy tale of Pabna. Land prices have skyrocketed in and around the power plant, and various companies have started looking for land to expand their business. The moon of fairy tales has peeked in the sky at Rooppur again.
You may find Dhaka, Chittagong or some of the top four cities in the country. But Rooppur in Pabna has surpassed that enormity in some parts. Here you will find skyscrapers in the sky as well as Russians in almost every corner of the project area. According to the data, more than 5,000 Russians as well as some Indians are living in the Rooppur nuclear power plant area.
The roads here have changed so much that the general markets have been completely decorated in Russian style. The use of Russian language in the face of ordinary people can be seen very naturally from the shop signboards. The people of Bangladesh are most dependent on English and Bengali in terms of language diversity. Russian is something new for us there.
The people of Rooppur have proved that no language is difficult, no nation is impossible to adopt. Due to the nuclear power plant, some extraordinary changes have taken place across Rooppur which are described by the common people as magic. Apart from the nuclear reactors or special equipments of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, all the raw materials being used here are made by Bangladeshi companies.
For example, important raw materials like rod cement are being supplied 100% by Bangladeshi companies. In the end, Rooppur is not just a nuclear power plant.
It is a dream cherished for more than half a century for pre-independence and post-independence Bangladesh. Watched. Maybe we will have to wait till 2023 to get light from this dream. If Rooppur spreads light, it will be illuminated all over Bangladesh.
